How to avoid single-use items
What’s better than recycling? Reusing! While it is true that many single-use items are considered recyclable, it doesn’t mean they always become recycled. Here are a few examples of how you can make a difference today:
Plastic bottles: Americans generate over 50 million bottles each year, and only 23% are actually recycled. Switching to a reusable water bottle can save money and immediately contributes to the solution.
Plastic bags: On average, every person throws away 300 plastic shopping bags every year. These are difficult to recycle even when handled properly and are not accepted in many locations. Reusable bags are durable and can help reduce your footprint for several years.
Disposable coffee cups: The paper cups are lined with plastic, which requires a very specific type of processing, making them extremely difficult to recycle. Replace them with reusable cups or mugs when possible.
